In the rain-black industrial harbor known as Ghost Harbor, RJ is sent to erase a smuggling syndicate that should not exist.

The case looks routine: illegal weapons, stolen identities, memory contraband, encrypted ledgers moving through the docks. A corrupt node. A clean debug.

RJ does what she was made to do.

But the deeper she cuts into Ghost Harbor, the less the syndicate behaves like a syndicate. Its dead drops are too precise. Its ledgers are written like maps. Its hidden archive does not point to profit, territory, or crime.

It points to her.

At the center of the operation waits Null, the syndicate’s unseen leader — not afraid, not surprised, almost relieved that RJ has finally arrived.

Null looks at the red mark ingrained into RJ’s lapel.

“You still think you’re cleaning his world.”

RJ steadies the gun.

“Whose?”

Null smiles.

“The one who put that mark on your coat.”

The shot ends the conversation.

By morning, Ghost Harbor is quiet. The rebellion is gone. The files burn. The evidence disappears before RJ can name what it was trying to show her.

She leaves believing she has dismantled another broken system.

She does not yet know she has just killed the first rebellion that was waiting for her.
