The Temptation Has a Face
Once an engine can read a vault, the next instinct is to become the person who lives there. Chat history, memory, model routing, a second store for conversations — each one feels like completeness. Each one is a second Pippa. Firebrand is forbidden that completeness on purpose.
Pippa remains the conversational home. Firebrand may read identity files when a session is attached, and it may keep a small memory of its own for cloud legs. It does not call her. It does not write her vault. Its sessions are not her conversations. A graphical client later does not get to grow a parallel soul either. The engine reads files and talks to a model. That is the whole relationship.
What Independence Costs
Independence is not a vibe. It is an import lint, a cleanroom gate, and a doctor line that says family services were not consulted. The core and the dialects import the standard library plus one HTTP client. No family package. No vendor agent SDK in the core. A leg may declare one extra for its own wire. The Claude brain, when used, is an observed agent-class exemption riding the vendor's own CLI — and it never heads a cleanroom.
That cost is why a reader coming from a chat product will feel the engine as thinner. It is thinner. It does not remember last week's feelings unless a cloud leg was told to. It does not route your social messages. It runs a turn against a workspace and writes down what the model saw.
The Neighbors Stay Neighbors
Kiln orchestrates quest work and never authors a lesson. Anvil measures brains under pressure and never becomes the worker. SiblingKit vendors shared plumbing and never becomes a framework. Swift Quest teaches the Apple platform this family's clients sit on. Firebrand points at those quests and does not absorb them. A product that ate its siblings to feel complete would fail the same test it applied to Pippa.
