History Fundamentals Quest

Updated: 2026-05-25

History is not a memorization subject. It is life statistics.

Learn to read history the way a pattern recognizer does: instances flow in, molds emerge, molds stack into super-classes, and your own life joins the same distribution. The school's drill is the wrong parent class.

Cheat 1 of Dad's three life cheats — history, statistics-inclusive numeracy, and object-orientation. This quest treats history as a sample dataset, not a fact dump. The 春秋戰國 era (770 BCE – 202 BCE) is the base — roughly 570 years dense enough that almost every root class of human behavior shows up at least once. You meet 환공·관중, 항우·범증, 유방·한신, 장량·범려, 소진·장의, plus the empire pattern, the hubris-control mechanism, the cycle of radical-becoming-conservative, the dark-forest doctrine of 손자 + 한비자, and a modern restatement (류츠신's Three-Body, Dad's Fourth K insight). Cross-cultural confirmations (Alexander, Genghis Khan, Caesar, Napoleon) appear sparingly — they prove the molds are universal, not that you need to memorize more samples. The closing track hands you a homework: pick living people from your own time and write a short novel about which mold each is an instance of. Six months later, re-read your novel against reality. That feedback loop is the cheat.

  1. 01📜The Manifesto

Drop what school did to history.

Before anything else: name the trap. School's history-as-memorization frame is the wrong parent class — facts collapse into trivia, the molds are invisible, the file closes on the day of the test. This track installs the right parent class and ships the five mantras you will carry through every other track.

  2. 02📖Reading as Sampling

    0/4 lessons

How proverbs, instances, molds, and confidence intervals all do the same job.

If history is life statistics, you need the statistics moves. Proverbs compress life experience into one sentence. Instances accumulate into molds. Molds stack into super-classes — the abstraction ladder. Conclusions live as confidence intervals, never as point estimates. This track installs those four moves so the rest of the quest has somewhere to land.

  3. 03👑The Empire Pattern

    0/4 lessons

The biggest, oldest, most well-documented mold in the dataset.

The 春秋 五覇 (Five Hegemons of the Spring-Autumn period) are the canonical instances. Their climb shares structure. Their fall shares structure. The constructor and destructor are bundled in one root class — and Qin Shi Huang's capstone, then Alexander and Genghis Khan across cultures, confirm that the mold is not Chinese, not ancient, and not retired. It is still running.

  4. 04🔧Hubris and Brakes

    0/4 lessons

    The bundle inside the bundle.

If the emperor pattern is one class with constructor + destructor, this track opens up the destructor and shows what drives it. Hubris is the fuel; brake is the bridle. Without the brake, three predictable failure modes appear — beauty-and-judgment (경국지색), strategist purge (모사 팽), and the ethics-void of politics. All four lessons stay in the 春秋戰國 sample window for closed-trajectory analysis, with brief cross-cultural confirmations.

  5. 05🔄Long Cycles

    0/3 lessons

Yesterday's radical is today's conservative — and tomorrow's defeated establishment.

The radical→conservative→deposed cycle is the political-scale instance of the same forgetting-the-bottom mold. The 春秋戰國 era itself is one full rotation (Zhou conservative → states radical → Qin unification → Qin conservative → Han revolution); Joseon's 훈구파 → 사림파 → 4색 당파 is a fractal sub-rotation. Modern polymorphism: US parties, Korea's 386 generation, PayPal Mafia. The real axis is not left/right; it is power phase. Once you see that, party labels look like time-dependent wrappers.

  6. 06🌲Beyond Ethics — The Dark Forest

    0/3 lessons

Sun Tzu wrote the original; Liu Cixin restated it 2,500 years later; Dad translated it into investing.

The dark-forest doctrine is older than its modern name. Sun Tzu's Art of War (兵者 詭道也) and Han Feizi's legalism are the 春秋戰國 originals: the realization that the arena of war / politics / power does not carry the ethical conventions of small-group life. Liu Cixin's Three-Body trilogy restated the same mold in cosmic terms in 2008. Dad's essay The Fourth K Insight translated the same mold into the language of credit risk and key-man stock evaluation. Three voices, one mold. The track closes with the error-correction axis that determines whether a benevolent leader stays benevolent or drifts into Xavier Kennedy.

  7. 07🗝The Cheat Code

    0/2 lessons

The quest closes. Your lifelong sampling begins.

Pattern recognition is a generic skill with no single right answer; it works as a weapon only for the person who actually sees the molds. This track is the ouroboros — the quest names its own learn-versus-master limit, and hands the learner a homework that drops them into their own time as the author of the next sample window. The cheat is the cost asymmetry plus the lifelong loop. The quest ends; the loop starts.
