Inkwell begins with a few keywords and returns an original passage worth copying by hand. Everything else—translation, blind review, revision, audio, search, and sharing—must wait its turn, preserve provenance, and leave the original sovereign. This quest turns that calm promise into an architecture.

A fountain pen makes delay visible. The nib has to meet paper, each letter costs motion, and a paragraph cannot be dismissed with a swipe. Inkwell was built around that useful slowness: a daily writing well that offers an original sentence, paragraph, or short essay from a handful of keywords, then gets out of the way while a human writes. The interesting engineering begins after the passage appears. Translation is not a formatting step; it is another act of authorship. Review is useful only when the reviewer sees the translation without the original and returns notes without taking the pen. Revision belongs to the original authoring brain. Audio belongs to a sibling voice service. Every one of those adornments may arrive late, fail, retry, or discover that the source changed while it was working. So the application needs durable job rows, explicit provenance, idempotent retries, and a late-result check that asks whether the world is still the one the job was born into. The surface follows the same ethic. One collection answers Today, 7 days, 30 days, calendar, tag, and search views. The client supplies its local date because that is where the notebook lives. Focus mode removes controls, a Wake Lock request fails softly, and no streak counter turns handwriting into a guilt machine.
