People dismiss old sayings. "That's so obvious." "Everyone knows that." "Tell me something new."
Here's the thing: they're not wrong that it's obvious. They're wrong about what "obvious" means.
An obvious truth that you've heard a hundred times but still don't live by — that's not knowledge. That's a flashcard you memorized and never used. You learned it (學). You never practiced it into instinct (習).
The sayings survive for thousands of years not because they're clever, but because the root class they express keeps producing relevant instances in every era, every culture, every domain. The surface changes. The root doesn't.
The Root Nobody Sees
Line up these statements:

Root class:

That's it. Everything else — the religious framing, the mystical language, the corporate branding, the Korean fighting spirit, the ancient Chinese philosophy — is polymorphism. Different clothes on the same body.
People who hear "Just do it" and feel motivated for 15 minutes are consuming an instance. People who actually just do it — every day, when it's hard, when nobody's watching — have inherited the root class. The first is 學. The second is 習.
History as Humanity's Root Class Library
Why do we study history? Why do we read Sun Tzu, Confucius, Marcus Aurelius, Machiavelli?
Not because their specific situations apply to us. Alexander's cavalry tactics are useless in modern warfare. Confucius's court etiquette is irrelevant to your office.
We read them because their root classes survived the ultimate QA process: thousands of years of testing across millions of instances. A principle that's been rediscovered independently by Greek philosophers, Chinese strategists, Indian sages, and Renaissance thinkers isn't a coincidence. It's a root class so fundamental that it keeps surfacing no matter what polymorphic wrapper a culture puts on it.

Sun Tzu opens with:
"兵者, 國之大事, 死生之地, 存亡之道, 不可不察也."
"War is a matter of vital importance to the state — a domain of life and death, a path to survival or ruin. It must be examined."
Dad took this 2,500-year-old class and overrode exactly one character:

國 (state) → 家族 (family). One override. Everything else — the gravity, the stakes, the imperative to examine — inherited as-is.
This is not plagiarism. This is not even "inspired by." This is inheritance. Dad called super() on a 2,500-year-old parent class, received 90% of the wisdom for free, and overrode the 10% that maps it to his domain: family investing.
And it works because Sun Tzu's root class was never really about war. It was about any high-stakes endeavor where failure destroys what you're responsible for. War was Sun Tzu's instance. Family investing is Dad's instance. Same mold. Different stamp.
Why Dad Can Talk Forever
Here's the secret people find mystifying: how does Dad connect cooking to investing to gaming to AI to philosophy to English to science — and make it feel natural?
It's not "cross-domain knowledge." It's not "being well-read." It's not "having a good memory."
He found the mold. And the mold stamps infinite instances.
When you see that "싼 게 비지떡" (cheap is cheap) and "Price is what you pay, value is what you get" (Buffett) and "Garbage In, Garbage Out" (computing) are the same root class in different clothes — you can generate new instances endlessly:

Most people read this as "study and review." That's the flashcard interpretation. The actual gap is:

Truths sound obvious because 學 is easy. "Don't use leverage." "Be patient." "Don't chase the market." Head nod. Head nod. Head nod. Then the next time the opportunity looks irresistible, the hand reaches for leverage anyway. Because the body never learned what the head agreed with.
That's why truths need to change clothes. The same root class, restated in your domain, in your language, with your examples — gives you another shot at 習. Sun Tzu said it for generals. Dad said it for families. Someone else will say it for whatever comes next. Same class. New polymorphism. Another chance to stop nodding and start doing.

Mold Hunt
Every culture has its wisdom tradition. Proverbs, fables, religious texts, philosophical treatises, folk sayings, grandma's advice.
Most people treat these as decoration — nice things to put on a wall or quote in a graduation speech. "That's just common sense."
But common sense that everyone knows and nobody follows is the most expensive kind of free. The root classes are right there, expressed in a thousand different polymorphic wrappers, each one a new chance to stop learning and start practicing.
The mold has been sitting in plain sight for millennia. The question isn't whether you've seen it. The question is whether you've picked it up.

Start with this:
"Pick a saying that you think is 'obvious' — something like 'practice makes perfect' or 'you reap what you sow.' Now find me at least three versions of the exact same truth from completely different domains: business, cooking, gaming, science, whatever. Don't just match the surface meaning — find the root class they all share, stated in one sentence."
Then push deeper:
"Now take that root class and generate a NEW instance — apply it to a domain none of those examples covered. Something from my own life if possible."
If your AI gives you a literary analysis ("these sayings share a common theme of perseverance..."), redirect:
"I don't want theme analysis. I want the structural root — one sentence that, if you understood it deeply enough, would let you derive all those sayings and infinite more without having memorized any of them. The mold, not the instances."
Then the real test:
"Now tell me — knowing this root class, what's a situation in my life where I KNOW this truth but don't LIVE it? Where I've 學'd but not 習'd?"
That last question is the one that matters. Your AI can help you find the mold. Only you can decide to use it.
