Cowork는 데스크톱에서 실제 파일을 다루는 에이전트야. OpenAI Operator는 관리형 클라우드 브라우저에서 웹 작업을 수행하고, ChatGPT Desktop의 Custom GPT는 파일을 올려 대화하는 데 강해. 겉으로 모두 에이전트처럼 보여도 실행 장소와 결과물의 모양이 달라.

Cowork는 Mac의 실제 디스크와 여러 하위 에이전트, MCP 생태계를 활용하는 파일 작업에서 앞서. Operator는 설치 없이 웹사이트 예약과 주문, 양식 작성에 강하고, ChatGPT Desktop은 빠른 대화와 업로드 파일 분석이 편해. 웹 자동화 성능처럼 Operator가 분명히 우세한 영역도 있어.

선택 기준은 간단해. 결과가 파일이면 Cowork, 웹사이트에서 끝나는 행동이면 Operator, 답변 문단이면 대화형 앱을 먼저 생각해. 한 도구의 팬이 될 필요는 없어. 잘못된 도구로 억지로 처리하는 시간이 두 번째 도구의 비용보다 비쌀 때가 많아.

Cowork는 1,800+개 MCP 서버 생태계를 쓸 수 있지만 웹 자동화 자체는 Operator가 앞서. WebVoyager 기준 예시도 Operator 87%, Cowork 56%였어.
